Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful summer. I had a great summer camping at the beach and in the redwoods, working in my garden, and working at camps, and spending time with my family and friends! Some of my favorite memories from this summer is the time I spent at my sister's house; we fished, crabbed, kayaked and played LOTS of games! What did you do that was fun?
I am still working on a specific syllabus and list of expectations to give you next week - here's hoping I finish it with time to find the typos before you! In an effort to be more in line with the Idaho Core Standards, expect that we will do more writing than you previously experienced in math class ... you might have to help me remember this goal throughout the year because it will be hard for me. Also, I intend that we will complete one large project a quarter. Current ideas I have are research, teaching the class a lesson from the book, writing your own children's book or video to explain an algebra topic, etc. If you think you have an awesome idea for a topic I would LOVE to hear it!

This year in Algebra One you will need:
2 -- 70-page spirals for homework -- they are about 20 cents at Shopko and Fred Meyer this week!
1 -- composition notebook for notes to keep forever and ever -- they are about 50 cents this week at the above retailers
pencils -- lots of them, don't think you will only need them until October
an eraser -- we all make mistakes
a pen -- you will need one of these everyday we have things to grade

This year in Algebra One you might want: a scientific calculator (like TI-30) -- there will be times I allow them but I may not be able to provide them -- Target typically has them for $8 or $9 this week graph paper - you will use a fair amount this year and I wouldn't have liked the stuff the school provides when I was your age (it feels weird) |
